Brown-Banded Cockroach Extermination in Phoenix

Are Brown-Banded Cockroaches Dangerous?

Yes, like other indoor roaches, they spread bacteria and contaminate food. Because they tend to hide in bedrooms and living rooms rather than just kitchens, they can spread allergens throughout the entire house.

What Are Brown-Banded Cockroaches?

They are small (about 1/2 inch) and yellowish-brown with distinct red-brown bands across their wings. Unlike German roaches, they prefer warmer, drier parts of the house and often hide behind pictures or in furniture.

Signs of a Brown-Banded Cockroach Infestation

Look for small roaches in non-kitchen areas like bedrooms, closets, or living rooms. You may find their egg casings attached to rough surfaces like the undersides of furniture, inside closets, or behind picture frames.

Preventing Brown-Banded Cockroaches

Inspect all incoming furniture, luggage, and boxes, as they are often brought indoors on belongings. Maintain good sanitation throughout the entire structure, not just the kitchen, to eliminate potential food sources.

The Antidote

Because they are found throughout the house, treatment must be comprehensive. We inspect and treat all rooms, paying special attention to the upper walls of closets, pantries, ceilings, and behind furniture.

Brown-Banded Cockroach FAQs

Where do Brown-Banded cockroaches hide?

Unlike German roaches that prefer wet areas, Brown-Banded roaches prefer warm, dry locations. They are often found high on walls, behind pictures, in closets, inside furniture, and in bedrooms.

Can they fly?

Only the male Brown-Banded cockroach is capable of flight. They may fly or jump when disturbed. Females have shorter wings and cannot fly.

How do they get into my house?

They are typically "brought in" on human belongings. They frequently hitchhike in luggage, used furniture, cardboard boxes, or packages.

Are they the same as German cockroaches?

No, though they are similar in size. German roaches have two dark stripes behind their head and prefer kitchens and bathrooms. Brown-Banded roaches have bands across their wings and prefer drier rooms.

What do they eat?

They will eat almost anything organic, including food crumbs, but they are also known to eat the glue on stamps and envelopes, book bindings, and even wallpaper paste.

How long do they live?

Their lifespan averages between three to 11 months. During this time, females attach their egg capsules to hidden surfaces, allowing the infestation to grow steadily if left untreated.
